FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS
Show Me Your Tears (Sonic Unyon)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

As if Frank needed to get any blacker - here's his heart on a platter, pulverized but good by the female of the species. Ouch. Here come the pain, the anguish, the waterworks; all in spiffy record form. The opening lament to Nadine, a lady dressed in black and swerving a big grey car, is classic Frank: all beat, sweat and devilish desire. He may be suffering, but the music sure ain't. Hold on to the wheel cuz Frank does a Neil Young falsetto later on. Well worth the wait. Recorded, as always, viscerally live, and this time with oddball guests like Stan Ridgeway and Van Dyke Parks, Show Me Your Tears is a superb twang rock noire slab that rates right up there with this Pixie's best work.
