KEROSENE BROTHERS
Choose Your Own Title (Audium)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

The Kerosene Brothers are the serious side of Hayseed Dixie. If you can call the AC/DC bluegrass tribute band serious, I think. They're the core team of talented bluegrass players behind a couple of CDs that slapped AC/DC with traditional bluegrass, quite possibly the most unlikely tribute record. The Kerosene Brothers feature fiddler, guitarist and lead singer John Wheeler, and banjo and mandolin players Don Wayne Reno and Dale Reno, sons of banjo pioneer Don Reno ("Dueling Banjos"). Dave Harrison on drums and Ethan Pilzer round out the band, and they're all having a helluva time on this record. Choose Your Own Title features Kerosene Brothers original songs plus updated treatments of traditional bluegrass songs like "Katy Daly," "Poor Ellen Smith," "In the Pines," and "Farther Along." Fans of bluegrass will shout with joy when they hear the attack of the Kerosene Brothers' harmonies, mandolins, and banjos. If you haven't heard the Kerosene Brothers, you haven't heard the potential of bluegrass.
