SAND: KIM FOWLEY AND ROY SWEDEEN
The West Is Best (Zip)

If you don't know who Kim Fowley is, then you better go do some homework because I don't have the space to explain it all to you. This CD is collaboration between the man and Roy Swedeen, who was in the Misunderstood toward the very end. Swedeen handles mostly all the instrumentation, with some contributions by sidemen on fiddle, pedal steel, organ and harmonica. Fowley does most of the, ahem, "vocalizing." Sung, or more often, recited in his lowest register baritone, this kind of reminds me of Lee Hazelwood a bit. Musically, it's real cool with lots of surf, country and spaghetti western soundtrack sounds going on. Pretty cool.
