Pop this into the CD player without any idea of what you've got and you might draw any of four or five conclusions as to Lovewhip's country of origin. Hmm, there's references to Bob Marley and "Simmer Down" and there are certainly some reggae rhythms in there, so Jamaica's in the running. But then again, there are elements of Highlife sprinkled here and there, so you can't count Nigeria out. Wait, though, those high guitar trills sound suspiciously Senegalese... Oh, just give up, because you're never going to guess they're from Boston. Erin Harpe's voice is coated with the kind of effects primarily found on dance records, and the compositions seem geared toward having a good time during your stay on the cruise ship. The good news is it works in that capacity quite nicely, so if you're looking for some feel-good music and you don't mind a multi-cultural flavor - or better yet, you consider that a plus - this is recommendable. It won't change your world and it probably won't top your charts, but we can all stand a good time now and again.
