SIR MIX-A-LOT
Daddy's Home (Rhyme Cartel)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Dirty old men are awesome and Sir Mix-A-Lot is one of the funniest,
dirtiest old men out there. This new album is trad Mix-A-Lot material, with
entire songs dedicated to the (under)size of his penis (with many sage
words of advice to men everywhere about how if you don't want your woman to
end up with John Holmes, there are things ordinary men have to do) and how
rappers today are just renting the act and how hard it was to make his
bills as a performer back in the day. The album is more than its subject
matter, though, and is full of fabulously contemporary and original musical
arrangements and crazy sound effects - as always Sir Mix-A-Lot is an amazing
spoken word artist, both rhythmically and lyrically, and this album just
proves that any major comeback is just a walk in the sun for someone like
him.
