BOOM BOOM SATELLITES
Out Loud (Epic)

Boom Boom Satellites are a Tokyo based duo featuring Michiyuki Kawashima
(vocals, guitar) and Masayuki Nakano (bass, drums, turntables). While
their sound generally falls into the electronic dance fold, their use of
live instruments (this album includes additional horns, woodwinds and
strings) and their focus on creating music that is as effective on stage
as it is in the studio separates them from the pack. Their blend of
techno, rock, jazz and hip-hop is accessible to fans of any of the
above. They've already made major waves in Japan and Europe and have
kicked off their sonic assault on the US with a spring tour of the
western states that included an impressive showcase at this year's SXSW
in Austin.
There's a great deal more on this disc than can easily be described in a
brief review. Suffice to say that there's a great deal here, and it's
great. Pick it up, slap it on and get ready to wear out the muscles in
your body and the soles of your shoes.
