DOUBLE NAUGHT SPIES
The Shoephone Conspiracy (Cherry Boy)

What a blast. This is what good power pop should be: pure fun and plenty of thick guitars. Double Naught Spies have already garnered a reputation as a great pop band through their appearances on compilations, but this is their first full length release. If anyone wondered if they could rise to that occasion, wonder no more. The Spies are not only up to it, they may just be one of the better bands on the power-pop scene. Their songs are instantly hummable and memorable, their harmonies are completely infectuous, and their energy never wanes. And like all worthwhile power pop, the music just plain feels good. There seems to be a resurgence of the Beatles' branch of power pop, and that's where Double Naught Spies fits in. With the breakup of Redd Kross, Lord knows we needed it.
