GLADYS KNIGHT
Many Different Roads (MCA)

If you're looking for the classic soul style that Gladys Knight carved
out fronting the Pips, you're not going to find it on Many Different
Roads. This time out she's performing an "inspirational" set, which is
another way of saying that this is her contemporary Christian album.
That's a fine thing for those who are into that school of music, and
there are few who approach it with better pipes or slicker production.
The CD is also a benefit for the American Diabetes Association's
Elizabeth Knight Fund, named for Gladys' mother, so if you're a
contemporary Christian with an interest in throwing a couple bucks in
the direction of a good cause, this is the record you're looking for.
The rest of us can catch that midnight train for Georgia in search of
Gladys' soul groove.
