KROSFYAH
Hot Zone (Kalinago)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Krosfyah are the premier exponents of that blend of soul and calypso (Soca) from the Caribbean island of Barbados. While Soca has been a popular dance and party sound in the Caribbean and the Caribbean diaspora in the States, it hasn't had the kind of crossover impact that reggae and ska have enjoyed. VP Records, a major source for Caribbean sounds in the US, hopes to change that and is beginning its efforts to do so by picking up distribution for Krosfyah's Hot Zone.

The album is an excellent introduction to the high spririted, celebratory character of the music, and if VP can get this pumped into enough ears, it just might be the album that makes Soca the next big thing on dance floors coast to coast. Pump a little into your ears and I think you'll agree. And if, by chance, it doesn't break through, you'll have the satisfaction of having one of the best party albums available in your collection.
