ROBERT CRENSHAW
Full Length Stereo Recordings (Gadfly)
Reviewed by Shaun

In between banging the drums for big brother Marshall Crenshaw's band,
Robert Crenshaw has been a busy fellow. He's been busy writing songs,
as a matter of fact, and he's written some real good ones. He's also
been working on his guitar and keyboard chops, and he's been singing a
bunch, and now he's gone and put nine of those songs, along with the
Bacharach/David tune "This Guy's In Love With You" on a CD. That's ten
songs all together, which qualifies this as a full length stereo
recording. Good enough reason to call his solo debut Full Length Stereo
Recordings, I suppose, and the music contained therein is more than a
good enough reason for you to schedule a visit with your favorite
purveyor of full length stereo recordings.
Crenshaw's songs are smart pop nuggets that hold up under repeated
listening. Brother Marshall comes along for the ride here and there,
contributing guitar, bass and keyboards, but it's Robert's project, with
a strong assist from songwriting and songplaying partner Jamie Hoover.
Gadfly found this one napping on the Sound Asleep label, and hopefully
they'll be able to provide the extra distribution push that this album
deserves. This album deserves a lot. You deserve this album.
