BEN FOLDS
Songs For Silverman (Epic)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
You have to give Ben Folds props for trying to keep the piano man sound alive, especially since that commercially viable genre went up in flames with the timely plane crash carrying Billy Joel, Elton John and Joe Jackson some decades past. So here he is, tinkling the ivories and singing lovely songs as if a revival is imminent. He may be on to something. Songs For Silverman may be his most catchiest collection of pop nuggets since he aborted his quintet, brimming with bouncy ditties sure to turn your frown upside down in no time. And who can resist happy music?
