BETWEEN HOME & SERENITY
Power Weapons in the Complex (Rust)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
It's not that I find anything particularly revolutionary about Cleveland's Between Home and Serenity; there are plenty of bands out there populating the "screamo" scene, and while BHAS may be one of the better, they aren't breaking barriers and pushing envelopes. Still, this CD keeps finding its way into my player, and the volume keeps creeping ever higher. They have the power thing down, and their music is loaded with mysterious metal vibes. When the screaming commences, it's just the right amount for the song without becoming its own parody, and that's pretty damned refreshing at the moment. These guys have made a fair impact through self-promotion, and now they've got some solid help on the national scene through pro management and a good label, so they should be on a steady upward trajectory for a while, at least.
