EUGE GROOVE
Livin' Large (Narada Jazz)
Reviewed by Holly Day
There's this TV show I watch sometimes while I'm waiting for something better to come on, something with a title like "Lifestyles of the Stars," or "The Resort Life," or something stupid like that - I don't turn it on consciously, so I've never caught it when they're rolling the credits and consequently, I have no idea what the title actually is. Anyway, it's all about famous people and their houses and their expensive custom-designed boots and blue jeans and where to buy those purses that look like bowling bags but cost thousands of dollars because some big designer hand-stitches his or her autograph on them. And constantly, throughout the show, they're mentioning people "livin' large" - hey, maybe that's the name of the TV show? Hell if I know. So that's what I thought of what when I saw the cover of this CD, of this Euge Groove guy sitting on a fancy red sofa and dressed in a suit - I figured this to be either a soft jazz record or a bad rap album; it turned out to be the first, a Kenny G-sort of yuppie make-out record that conjures all sorts of images of fireplaces and people staring at each other over out-of-focus champagne glasses - needless to say, I'm not a big fan of this album.
