THE GO-BETWEENS
Oceans Apart (Yep Roc)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
The album Go-Betweens fanatics have been waiting on. Sure, their recent reconciliation efforts have warmed many ears, but they just weren't clicking on all cylinders. Oceans Apart restores the grand legacy of messieurs Foster and McLennan as true British pop meisters, with ten adorable singles riding on jangly guitars, clever melodies and captivating lyrics. Unabashedly beautiful pop, crafted with heart-warming in mind may not be so damn fashionable, but who can resist that silly inner glow that only a gorgeous hook can offer? Yes, we are but fish in a barrel. As the folks on TV say: act now and receive a bonus live disc. Operators are standing by.
