MOJO STU
Real House Blues (Mudbone Records)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

Mojo Stu's a mainstay in the greater Philadelphia blues scene, and his third record features nine blistering acoustic blues cuts that fit in my blues collection right alongside work by Terry Evans, David Jacobs-Strain, Harry Manx and Doug MacLeod. The upbeat call-and-response woven throughout "Got a Love" helped Mojo Stu land on WXPN-FM's local compilation, Philly Local, Right on Track. Mojo Stu plays acoustic, electric, slide, bass and keyboards on Real House Blues, but I keep coming back to the way he uses background vocals to fill out songs like "Got a Love" and "Hootchie Mama." I only have one complaint about Real House Blues: I wish the CD were twice as long as the 36 minutes we're given. More info: www.realhouseblues.com or www.mojostu.com.
