And here I was, all excited about a Spoons reunion when someone slaps the cold hard truth across my red face. Turns out Spoon will do nicely in a pinch. You see, they have the art of crafting pretty little pop songs down quite pat. Each and every tune is a swanky little entity unto itself, quite unlike the others, yet working well as a bouncy whole. Britt Daniel crafts his songs with a definite early seventies glam feel (T. Rex and Bowie), but disguises them with daring (yet subtle) instrument flourishes, and a very unique delivery. The result is a batch of new songs that sound damn familiar, which by all accounts, should be a winning formula.
