VAN MORRISON

Right in the middle of a typical Van Morrison album, surrounded by flowing blue-eyed soul, is a terrible Satchmo impersonation. It's a silly growl complete with Armstrong's patented "Oh Yeah!" And though it's quite atrocious, it breaks the record apart quite nicely. Morrison seems to be having fun, and that makes for a spirited record. The voice still resonates with lion-like power, and Van hasn't lost his soul just yet. There's even a Sonny Terry style whoopin' number. The geezer just keeps on keepin' on.
