This is the DVD companion to the CD release of the same title, but it's even more. In addition to the 19 track show by The Blasters and special guests including Sonny Burgess, Billy Boy Arnold, the Calvanes and the Medallions, the DVD is packed with special features.
There are interviews with all of the principals, of course, but the real highlights are the vintage performance footage from Blasters' shows of the early 80s, including a pair of songs from a 1982 show and one from 1983, and another pair of tunes performed by the Blasters lineup that Phil Alvin continues to take on the road to this day. In this case, it's the Hootenanny show in 1983.
The historical sweep of the performances, from the 80s to the reunion show to the contemporary Blasters, is just flat out impressive, and no matter what era or lineup is involved, every minute of this little masterpiece demonstrates why the Blasters were, are and will be the real masters of American roots music.
