DARBY JONES
Harmony And Discord (RSM Records)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
While there are probably a half dozen potential singles among the ten tracks
offered on this New Jersey quartet's RSM debut, the best thing about Harmony
And Discord is the whole thing. It's just a brilliantly paced album,
something far too rare these days.
Leading off with high energy and a dense emotional impact, they know just
when to pull up the musical reigns and just when to let them out again,
mixing tough indie rock with pop that's powerful without succumbing to any
'power pop' cliches. Even with repeated listenings, I find myself a little
surprised that they're so good at doing just the right thing at just the
right moment, time after time.
Can a band that writes great singles and produces great albums succeed in
the music business? Well, if the music business still has anything at all
to do with, you know, music (a debatable concept, to be certain), they sure
as hell should. Darby Jones has all the chops and all the tools it should
take. Now they just need, well, you. Snag this one and create a deserving
success!
