LISA DEWEY
Weather Changer Girl (Kitchen Whore Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This is one of those records I sort of like because it reminds me of so
much stuff I used to like a long time ago, while just touching short on
being as good as those things. It reminds me of some of the early Siouxsie
and the Banshee material and Bulgarian folk music, simultaneously,
especially where the instrumentation (weird whistles and twangly stringed
instruments, echoey sound effects and high-pitched wails, a wide range of
ethnic-sounding percussion) is concerned. It's very ethereal and dreamy and
just short of being really great.
