MONSTER-0

On Monster-0's website is the phrase "music for the post-ColecoVision age." Ironically, the music reminds me of what was happening in electronic music back in the ColecoVision era and before. The Chicago area trio's debut is primarily done, after all, on a laptop computer. I don't mean it's recorded on one or some sounds were produced by one, I mean that's what they "play." Only singer Daemon Hatfield brings flesh and blood completely into the mix. Is this a bad thing? Some people hate it. It can be a little cold, and Monster-0's soundscapes aren't particularly lush, but there's that 80s/early 90s electronica thing going on that will feel like going home for the real synth heads out there. Are they among the best in the game? I'm not sure there are many in their game right now, but either way, this is just their first release, a seven song EP, and they just may find a niche and develop from there.
