SENSES FAIL
From the Depths of Dreams (Drive-Thru Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Once again, here's another band that proves that it's just too hard to move
within the "emo" genre without sounding like about a hundred other bands.
Which is too bad, because if I hadn't heard those hundred other bands
already, I'd probably like this a lot. As it is, though, the music on this
comes off as practically formulaic: here's where the multi-layered
multiple-voiced chorus goes, here's where the instrumental section goes,
here's where the music slows down, here's where it speeds up, and here's
where it takes a dramatic pause. Like I said, it's a nice record, but I've
heard it all so many times that I just can't keep from thinking it's one of
a hundred other similar records I've heard over the past year.
