THE SPEEDS
The Speeds (self-released)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
We are catching a sneak peak early in what just might become a significant rock and roll career. The Speeds, a trio out of Pittsburgh, have been playing together in other bands for five years but have only been the band that rocks the four tracks of this CD/EP for the past year and change. They aren't doing anything that hasn't been mapped out before; there are heavy power chord slam moments with distorted vocals and chord progressions that probably reveal more influences than they intended, but The Speeds play it so well and with so much energy and excitement you can't help but get caught up in it. They have quite a bit of their own sounds between the elements of Offspring and, on the power pop side, half a dozen bands worth learning from, so the full-length to come, and subsequent releases, should be at least as fun as this. Even at this very early stage they're making highly addictive sounds.
