DIRT BIKE ANNIE
Show Us Your Demons (Dirtnap Records)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
This NYC-based quartet specializes in punky pop stuff that shows
off a penchant for catchy melodies and driving guitar sounds. The dual vocals of
guitarists Adam and Jeannie are a nice touch: sometimes they take turns,
sometimes one sings mainly solo, sorta like John Doe and Exene in X. They
write good hooky-filled tunes, with equal amounts Weezer and Pixies in their
sound. On the songs where Jeannie takes the lead, like "Two Ton Wait" and
"Next Time," her sweet voice propels the songs into super-catchy pop-punkers
that wouldn't sound out of place on the radio these days. Fans of pop-punk stuff should check this band out.
