THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY
The Cleveland Finger (Exist Stencil)

Reviewed by Holly Day

Damn - another EP that should be an LP! I love this thing - it's like an angry, raucous, noisier version of what 100 Flowers were doing in the '80s (the real 100 Flowers, not the new band that sprang up this past year or so), with hints of New York No Wave from the same time period. It's full of chaotic guitars, some really amazing percussion, and lyrics that don't make any sense but sound cool repeated ad nauseam by an unnamed vocalist that sounds like he's having a nervous breakdown, recorded intentionally crappy to give the album a completely lo-fi, impromptu rage-fest sort of feel to it. There's apparently a full-length record in the works by this band right now, so maybe this'll be more than the one-shot deal that the press kit threatens this might be.
