Bad Case Of The Glads (Music For Cats)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
This just arrived in my mailbox and it is a goodie! Man, it's got
the most insane, killer fuzz guitar on it, I kid ye not. Guitarist Pat Shanks (also the singer) and Jim Sproul (also on organ and backing vocals) create a twin guitar fuzztone attack! And the tunes just shred! I'm way impressed! Deranged tunes like "My Baby Likes To Get Smashed," "Got Your Stink," "Bad Buzz Baby," and "Drinkin' And Drivin' Me Wild." They cover cult Canadians Deja Voodoo's "Cat That's Gone To The Dogs" and the Fresh Window's Brit-Psych Freakbeat freakout "Fashion Conscious." Shank's voice still has the same snarl and growl that he had when I used to play with him in the 14th Wray some 12 years ago. Glad to hear him still using the phrase "wig out," too. On "Widen Up," the overwhelming influence of Billy Childish is present with its trashy R&B flavor and great lyrics about opening one's mind up. Darren Merinuk did the CD artwork, too.
