THE RECIPE
All You Can Eat (Harmonized Records)

Reviewed by Erick Mertz

The Grateful Dead comparisons might be the easy way out, but they are undeniable when describing the work of Harmonized Records release All You Can Eat by The Recipe. For the live recording of a jam band, this is as tight as it gets, melding the meandering element into a cohesive funk sentinel. Julie Edlow adds the Donna Jean Godchaux chanteuse vocal to elaborate percussion by Gregg Lowley and Tom Whelan. Rock is the band's backbone however, and it ranges from spunky electric to bluegrass. The album's two longest songs, "The Seed" and "Playground Belly-flop," are by far the best, for their ability to maneuver through the band's fast, chunky and most importantly, crowd pleasing, repertoire.
