DAVE DE CASTRO
Plowing the Clouds (Ampco Records)

Reviewed by Erick Mertz

Records like Dave de Castro's Plowing the Clouds are hard to take out of your regular rotation, he brings so many eclectic rock styles to the fold. He uses simple, gritty guitars on "One Fine Day" and British invasion pop on "Cracked Up to Be." His sonic experiments, like the string infused song title track toward the end are nothing spectacular, but do lend a well rounded psychedelic quality to what amounts to an absolutely fantastic album. The information on the CD is sparse, but whoever produced should get double kudos for giving de Castro such a consistent, powerful sound.
