FIEND WITHOUT A FACE
Fiend Without a Face (Shut Eye Records)

This is really cool. It's kind of a cross between a collection of country
and punk and spacey surf music and old timey barroom (like 1800's
honky-tonk barroom) instrumentals and then some songs with vocals that
sound a lot like an early Dr. No/Bad Brains. Some of the songs don't even
sound like they're done by the same band, there's so much diversity on this
disc. Luckily, though, the band can obviously handle all these different
styles just fine, and nothing here sounds like it was put here just to make
a point about diversity. My favorite material here, though, are definitely
the instrumentals, and I think that's where this guitar/drums/slap bass
band shows off its talents best.
