SEX AND REVERB
Sex and Reverb (The Paisley Pop Label)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
It's from The Paisley Pop Label, so I suppose I don't have to go into a lot of detail about what kind of music this is. It's very enjoyable, instantly catchy, and some of the tracks sound like they're on a distorted 45 from the late 60s. That's a little strange and it throws you off balance for a bit, but you get back into the swing of things pretty quickly and in one piece. Maybe it's appropriate that some of it should sound like that anyway, since the less paisleyesque tunes sound like late 60s bubblegum with wattage and depth. That works fine, but it's when Sex and Reverb gets in a trippy, spinning, echoplexing, chunky groove, as they do in "When I Die," that they really make their mark and show what they're all about. It's a beautiful thing, man.
