SNAPCASE
Bright Flashes (Victory)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
It is becoming quite evident that Devo was a great metal band cleverly slinking all over MTV with a faux new wave persona. Yet another crunching version of "Freedom of Choice" is the proof. The big, meaty, heavy handed drum explosions, the choppy chainsaw guitars and the anthemic lyrics just begging to be screamed make for an insistent sonic blast that just won't go away. Snapcase do it up right, but in the process reveal themselves to be more metal lovers than their punk legions would care to admit. This odds and sodds b-side style compilation is littered with covers of the likes of Helmet, Jane's Addiction, and Devo yet again, to hammer the point home.
