THE BLACK JETTS
Bleed Me (Dead Beat)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
I'd never heard of these guys before, who hail from Las Vegas, but I really like this a lot. They have a great sleazy '70s punk/glam rock feel, reminiscent of early '70s Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, Hollywood Brats and New York Dolls. This is recorded all rough and raw, with great slightly distorted vocals, and a really trashy drum sound. There's crazy-assed guitar solos coming out of nowhere, and cool piano and organ work even though no one is credited for performing it. Most of this is mid-tempo, high energy rock like "Come On," "Bleed me" and "Summer Girls," though they do a great slow tune reminiscent of the Stooges' "Gimme Danger" or "I Got Nothin'" called "Hangin' Around." They end of with a fun cover of the Eddie Holland Motown classic "Leavin' Here," erroneously credited to the Who, which they likely based their version on.
