THE BLASTERS
Live! Going Home (Shout!)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Sure, there's still a Blasters, and probably will be as long as Phil Alvin's
pipes hold out, but this is THE BLASTERS! Phil Alvin, Dave Alvin, John
Bazz, Bill Bateman and Gene Taylor. The original lineup that turned back
the clock, turned up the volume and turned on the world all those years ago,
together again for the last show of their 2002-2003 reunion tour.
They're an all star quintet all by themselves, but that night they also
packed the stage with a stellar guest list, including LA doo-wop legends The
Calvanes and The Medallions, Sun Records star Sonny Burgess and blues great
Billy Boy Arnold. It's all here, 16 tracks of hardcore roots music played
for the pure love of it, and played with a purity that no one else on the
scene can match.
While they made some of the best albums of the 80s, the Blasters played
some of the best shows ever, and this is one of them. This isn't just an
album, it's an event, and you shouldn't miss it.
