GLAMOUR PUSS
Wire and Wood (NorthernBlues)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

Like British Columbia's Blue Voodoo, Glamour Puss (formerly known as the Glamour Puss Blues Band), was honored with a nomination for this year's Maple Blues Awards. While Jack de Keyzer won in the Best Electric Act category at this year's fete hosted by the Toronto Blues Society, I enjoyed Glamour Puss' latest Northern Blues CD, Wire and Wood, and agree with the Canadian blues press that it's something special. This 5-piece New Brunswick band's repertoire ranges from the slow blues of "If You Miss Me (So Much)," to the homegrown Zydeco in "Maman Don't Play No Zydeco," to the horn-fueled swing blues of ""Swingin' Gin." They're no slouches on traditional blues either, as their version of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom," complete with a great guitar solo from Travis Furlong, demonstrates. Wire and Wood is Glamour Puss' fourth CD, and along with the recognition from the Maple Blues Awards, it's sure to get them some well-deserved attention south of the border.
