ANATHEMA
A Natural Disaster (Koch)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Poor Liverpudlians, having to shake that Beatles stigma is akin to a wet dog: you may succeed, but wind up stinky in the end anyway. Anathema tried hard to distance themselves from the she-loves-yous expectations with a crawling, metal, goth stance for the better part of a decade. Year thirteen sees a smoothing, prog rock angle infiltrating camp. Epic ballads of whimsy abound! As if Pink Floyd deemed it high time to release the flying pigs. Is there another revival on the way? Dave Gilmour must be licking his chops.
