BOTTLE ROCKETS
Leftovers (New West)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
Leftovers is one of two early Bottle Rockets CDs that New West Records will reissue in April. The other one, Brand New Year, is more of a rock record, but Leftovers is more of an alt-country disc. Leftovers was originally released by Doolittle records in 1998, the Austin imprint that eventually merged into New West in 2000. Leftovers is a collection that will remind alt-country fans of Uncle Tupelo and there's a reason for that: Bottle Rocket Brian Henneman played with Uncle Tupelo for a while, and he's written or co-written these eight alt-country gems. "Get Down River" and "Skip's Song" are my favorites from this disc, which will expand the audience for Missouri's standout roots rock outfit. While they've re-formed and changed labels since these tracks were captured by producer Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, Leftovers captures a valuable part of the 90's roots/Americana revival.
Track List:
Get Down River * Dinner Train to Dutchtown * Skip's Song * Coffee Monkey * If Walls Could Talk * Financing His Romance * My Own Cadillac * Chattanooga
