COURTNEY LOVE
America's Sweetheart (Virgin)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Ya gotta luv Courtney. There she is, all nipped and tucked, and airbrushed ever so curvy in a Vargas, Playboy style erotic painting. Guitar in lap, wings on her back, some naughty undergarments and remnants of silky bondage ribbon. The pop out poster in the CD booklet brings back the good old days of vinyl album packaging, and if for nothing else, we should all bow down and be thankful. Music? Yes there's music, but that's not the point. Courtney has used up her rock gift and moved on, leaving only a few brief moments worthy of your player: nothing new, mostly riffs pilfered from Kurt, and a bizarre partnership with former Elton John lyricist Bernie Taupin. This is all about causing a stir, and Courtney has always been the undisputed queen. You still go, girl.
