DECAHEDRON
Disconnection_Imminent (Lovitt)

Reviewed by Erick Mertz

The side project is called Decahedron (formerly The Black Sea, a CMJ Top 200 band in 2002 despite a lack of marketing), the album dubbed Disconnection_Imminent and for Joe Lally (Fugazi) and Shelby Cinca and Jason Hamacher (formerly of Frodus) it is anything but a vacation from the norm - veterans of DC hardcore, DIY outfits don't take vacations, they take chances. Developed via MP3 across e-mails, and in the bowels of their home recording studios, the band Decahedron muscles up and spends the bulk of their 11-song disc spitting in the eye of current socio-political contradictions.

Disconnection_Imminent consists of tough, punk-funk guitars, Lally's unmistakably sharp bass runs and observant, moody lyrics, proving that apples never fall too far from the tree. It is an outwardly aggressive album, straight from the Dischord stable and one deserving notice. With a spring tour and now a full-length record to grow on, that seems inevitable.
