KINZEL AND HYDE
Oklahoma Credit Card (Blue Heron Blues)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

Portland, Oregon's Stu Kinzel and LynnAnn Hyde have earned top honors from the Cascade Blues Association over the years as either Best Traditional Act, Acoustic Guitar (Stu) or Back What You Believe In Award for Undying Dedication to the Blues Community (LynnAnn). Despite that unwieldy award title, there's no doubting that this guitar-harp duo has first-class traditional blues chops. Their latest CD on Blue Heron Records, Oklahoma Credit Card, is a great blues record that updates traditional and Cajun blues nicely. ""Muddy Tribute" rolls and tumbles as it evokes Muddy Waters' early acoustic work with some spine-tingling slide work from Stu, while LynnAnn's fat harp tone sets up and delivers throughout "Too Many Drivers" to close the CD. LynnAnn's a rarity - a talented blues woman who plays a mean harp - and when she and Stu jam together, there's blues magic to burn on Oklahoma Credit Card.
