ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK
The Cooler (Koch)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Soundtracks that carry the baggage of original score instrumentals may be the last vestige of adventurous composers of serious music, but unfortunately those interludes often stink. Plug the nostrils stink. But wait, for Mark Isham is one of the few men working with Hollywood that can offer something listenable each and every time out. It may not be the pioneering jazz once forecast as his career, but Isham proves a very clever boy with a horn. Sneak in some kitschy crooning from Bobby Caldwell and Joey Fatone, and the late night misery of a Las Vegas casino is almost complete. Just add film.
