THE DAMNWELLS
Bastards Of The Beat (Sixthman)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
The Damnwells first made their name gigging around New York City, but they
have an All American sound that's pure heartland. Call it Americana without
the twang. Solid, guitar driven rock with hard edged pop hooks and a steady
drive (provided by the former Whiskeytown rhythm section, drummer Steven
Terry and bassist Ted Hudson). Alex Dezen writes and sings the songs over
that formidable backbeat, while guitarist Dave Chernis fills every space
with whatever's needed - every bit of whatever's needed and never a bit
more.
Can you tell yet that I like this album very much? And I think this band
will be very big?
Summer's coming, and radios across America are waiting for some great sunny
day, top down sounds to travel with, fall in love over, sing along to. The
Damnwells are ready to oblige.
