ELF POWER
Walking With the Beggar Boys (Orange Twin Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This was a hard album for me to get into, not because it was bad, but
because I was so in love with the "old" Elf Power that I was a little
disappointed in the direction this one seemed to be heading. Where Elf
Power previously came across as happy surreal parade music, this is darker,
a little more like traditional rock, with gloomy imagery and less of the
supernatural quality of some of their previous work. However, after a
couple of listens, I have decided this is a great album despite not holding
to the old Elf Power formula, just a little sadder and more bitter, as if
the old Elf Power had just found out that their dog had been hit by a car
and sat down and wrote a bunch about how it made them feel.
