MYSTERY GIRLS
Something In The Water (In The Red)

Reviewed by DJ Johnson

Good, old fashioned R&B from Green Bay, shaped by an even mix of affection for the blues and a strong aura of garage energy. Where many bands are sloppy because they have no choice, Mystery Girls (who happen to be guys, by the way) use just the right amount of slop to give their music a feeling of looseness and fun. I'd love to tell you who's playing what, but the liner notes list things like "Magnetic Moon Beams" and "Rumblephone" instead of instruments. Otherwise there'd be a few kudos being passed out here. (Cute liners, moondoggies! Really the most ut!) While there's no new ground being broken here, some of the old ground is being worked in very cool ways, so I happily recommend this to garage fans.
