GLORIOUS DAY
Welcome To The Front (Peace Land & Bread)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
Formerly known as August Spies, these Seattle locals changed their name to avoid confusion with at least two other bands with the August Spies name. Previously, they'd released a great CDEP, and this full-length is a great follow-up. Smart, angry, politically-charged mid-tempo punk rock with Stinky Ken's horse vocal style reminiscent of Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers, great guitar work from Brad Klausen and powerhouse drumming (and acoustic guitar on songs like "Transmission") from Mark LaFalce. I really like "Big Fat American," "Bombs Away" and "Tin Rubber Oil," the latter featuring a herky-jerky rhythm and great whispered backing vox. Songs like "Useless" not only have great lyrics, but they fucking rock as well, always a good thing for me.
