You can almost see Raymond Burr, a lei swaying around his neck, rollin' in as the "Perry Mason Theme" gets the Hawaiian guitar treatment. Jon Rauhouse is the man. The man with a devious plan. Slipping diabolical island lounge instrumentals among breezy croon pop nuggets should be against the law, but thanks to a timeless spirit and the assistance of deft musicians down with the program, this here becomes a moving violation. Giant Sand alumni are all over this one, as are the sweet voices of Sally Timms, Carolyn Mark, Neko Case and Kelly Hogan. Aaaah, Kelly Hogan. Worth it especially for the superb guitar treatment of Raymond Scott's timeless Looney Toones staple "Powerhouse." Nice.
