Welcome to Cosmik Debris Magazine's Links Page! Here you will find all kinds of
cool places to check out...
The Daily Feed - Great
political and
social insights put The Daily Feed on the cutting edge, so listen
up as they cut through the crap and tell it like it is.
KAMP - This station has
lousy sound, but great
music. It comes from Arizona U, and it features all kinds of music, sports and
talk. It seems the DJs change every semester, which means the programming does,
too. Interesting stuff, tho.
KDVS - Cal Davis'
student-run radio
that gives you
a different style of music every few hours, and
some of the programs mix it all up. Some of the deejays are quite entertaining,
and they sure
seem to know their music.
KMNR - 89.7 FM, Rolla,
Missouri. Like
many of the other stations on this page, KMNR offers so much diversity that you
could get lost for weeks soaking it all up. A lot of fun to listen to.
KVRX - Student radio for the
University Of
Texas in Austin. Very eclectic, which is exactly what you should expect from
Austin, where the live music scene is just that. Decent sound, too.
KWUR - Washington
University in St. Louis.
Another champion of eclecticism. We at Cosmik Debris salute Jamie, the host of
The Juke Joint, who says "I think radio formatting -- playing one sole,
segregated genre -- is boring; my show isn't." And she's right.
3WK Underground Radio - This
is a Net-only
station that plays "underground" music, like Poster Children, Guided By Voices,
Flying Saucer Attack, Bob Mould, and The Loud Family. The sound quality is very
good, and you can actually read the artist and title info for each song right
there on your Real Player.
2kool4radio.com - They
are just what
the name implies. Net-Only, great sound, diverse, gutsy programming.
WEBR - This Fairfax,
Virgina Community
Radio station's motto is "keeping the first ammendment alive," and
that's not a bad motto to have. You can hear talk and all kinds of music from
jazz to garage.
WITR - It's in
Rochester, NY,
and it seems to cover all ground from punk to reggae and back. It MAY
be affiliated with Rochester Institute of Technology, but they don't seem to
want you to know that. Or maybe not.
wrek-
net - Reggae,
punk, blues, jazz, classical and more from the campus station at Georgia Tech.
You'll find something for everyone. Hey, they even have separate programs for
Himalayan music! And Jewish music! Everything!
Arf! Arf! - Gotta be
one of the
strangest labels on Earth, but oh, so cool. Among their treasures you'll find
60s garage so obscure you couldn't possibly have heard it before, and still it's
mind-meltingly intoxicating. Happy 20th anniversary, Arf! Arf!.
Black Saint & Soul Note
Records - Two important Italian jazz labels. Want to know where the
adventurous jazz
artists went? Where the audiences appreciated them: Europe. And these labels
have the goods.
Concord Records -
They do classical and adult contemporary music, but we love 'em for the jazz and
Latin jazz they do so well, with artists like Poncho Sanchez, John Pattituchi,
Chick Corea, Big Kahuna & The Copa Kat Pack and Rosemary
Clooney, not to mention the late Tito Puente. Goooood label.
Epitaph Records - Once
they did one thing and did it right. Thunder-drummed angry punk music. Now
they do about five things, but they STILL do them right. They still have the
punk, but they also have ska, power pop, blues and... they've even got Merle
Haggard!
Harmonia Mundi - An
excellent classical label that offers music that is often very different from
the usual classical fare.
MuSick Recordings -
If they're not
the last bastion for surf and instrumental music, they're at least the home of
the very best, from The Space Cossacks and The Hypnomen to Eddie Angel and Pollo
Del Mar.
ROIR - Once cassette-
only, Reach Out
International Records puts out CD re-releases of those cassette classics by punk
gods of the 80s, while issuing current CDs in the dub reggae field.
Rounder Records - The
parent label for Philo, Ashe, Heartbeat and others, the Rounder group puts out
some of the most historically important music you could hope to hear. Reggae
fans should head straight to the Heartbeat section of the site. Take note: You
CAN NOT go wrong with a Heartbeat release.
Sugar Hill Records - American roots music, from Doc Watson to Dolly Parton. (Dolly PARTON?)
Yep, if you haven't heard what she's done for Sugar Hill, you should. This is a
great bluegrass and old-timey music label.
Sundazed Records - We
LOVE this label!
They re-release lost classics by bands like The Beau Brummels and Paul Revere &
The Raiders, and we kiss their toes for it.
Firezine - The official digital
magazine of Firesign Theatre, the greatest comedy group in the history of... history.
If you want to know what's happening in the world of the four or five guys, this is the
place to go.
Yeah, we know it seems strange for a magazine to give lip service to other magazines,
let alone draw you a map, but we think there's a big world of music and entertainment
(and other things) out there, and there's no way we can cover more than a fraction of
a fraction ourselves. There's no way ANYONE can. So you need more than one source.
Therefore, we offer this list of what we feel are the best Online publications. Take
a look, but always remember to come back home to Cosmik and see what we've got cookin'.
Alternate
Music Press
- The multimedia journal of new music.
Amazing Sounds
- A magazine
for fans of electronica, ambient, trance, avant-garde and meditative music.
Austin Live - A
magazine dedicated to
one of the hotest music scenes in America: Austin, Texas.
bangSHEET - A cool mag

Billboard

Famed for their charts, there's much more here, from new releases to articles.
Chart Attack -

graphic detail. Updated daily.
Demorama - The site

some, but the idea is great. They give exposure to independent artists who are
making music 100% on their own and making it possible for you to listen to it.
Kudos.
Perfect Sound Forever
- The online
music magazine with warped perspectives.
Reggae Source Magazine - One of the
better reggae mags on the Net, covering both roots and dancehall.
Splendid E-Zine - All kinds
of music.
Reviews, articles and interviews.

coLeSLAw's gALlEry
- A place where
you can check out the artwork of coLeSLAw. For the first two and a half years
of Cosmik Debris' life, he was our artist, doing the covers and the title
images. He's now the President of the small island nation of Grooviatopia, but
his artwork is still here to peruse. We miss the way he used to scurry out and
grab a handful of Rice Chex and then scurry back. It was cute. [sniffle.]
David Walley - Does it again. His new book, Teenage Nervous
Breakdown: Music & Politics In The Post-Elvis Age is getting rave
reviews. Click to check out availability & pricing.
Garage Nation -
is the homepage
of Timothy Gassen, author of our
very own Psychedelicatessen column. You'll find past columns and info
about his book, The Knights Of Fuzz.
M'Lou Music - Gary 'Pig'
Gold would like you
to visit M'Lou Music, the proud home of Shane Faubert and his legendary
Cheepskates, The "Unsound" Demos Only Series (send us YOUR home recordings,
please!) and, last but far from least, Los Angeles' one and only Masticators.
The Night Owl - Steve
Marshall's
online publication and review archive, featuring the reviews that aren't
available in Cosmik Debris, as well as some that are.
Owl's Eye Images
- A Collection
of Event
and Live Music Photos by Tim Owen featuring an extensive listing of rock, blues
and reggae artists. Tim has developed a collection of well over 200 artists. He
has also served as an event photographer for various art and music festivals --
Come check out the site!
Reverb
Central - Ya wanna
know about nearly any surf record? This is your click spot. Phil Dirt's review
archive is 2nd to none.
Thrust
- John
Sekerka's popular quarterly zine, Thrust, has monthly updates
in its webzine form. His writing, for Thrust AND Cosmik, is archived there.
Dr. Bristol's
Musical Prescription....good taste and the urge to share it........
Oneposter.com
- You can get lost for hours looking through the posters at this great Online store.
Reasonable prices, too. This isn't an ad. We just think it's a a fun place to hang
out and look at images, as well as a great resource for adding art to your walls.
Merriam-Webster's Word For The Wise
- It's just one part of Merriam-Webster's web site, but it's a cool way to learn something new
every day. It's actually a short radio program broadcast on public radio, but it's also presented
in text here. Each day there's a new word or phrase or quote and some history behind it, but
it's never dull or dry. In fact, it's rather addicting. You can read the transcript or listen
in Real Audio.
MP3.COM
- A place where you can download a TON of free MP3s AND discover some of the most talented
bands and solo artists on the planet. They may not have a label behind them yet, and in fact
they may not want one, but many of them have everything it takes to become your next
musical addiction.
DVD Easter Eggs!
- That's what they call a hidden feature on a DVD, one you have to figure out some secret
way of accessing. This website has hundreds of DVD Easter eggs mapped out for you. Hey,
you might THINK you're already getting your full money's worth from your favorite DVD, but
there just might be a hidden interview, some deleted scenes or even an alternate ending
hidden away on that there platter!
Nothin' But The Blues.
- Hey, even if the content sucked, we'd send you there just to check out the ultra-cool
way you get from page to page. Honest, you want to try this. And on top of that, it's
one of the best blues sites we've ever seen.
How do you get your site added to our link page? First of all, send e-mail to
links@cosmik.com and tell
us exactly what
your site is all about. But understand two things in advance: we only link to
sites we really like and we do NOT link to sites that immediately open two dozen
browser windows full of ads. Linking back to us is a nice touch, but it's not
required.
